Operation Smile

Founded in 1982, Operation Smile is an international medical organization dedicated to providing safe, high-quality and free surgeries for children who are born with cleft lips, cleft palates and facial deformities from underprivileged and remote areas around the world. With 38 years of expertise, we have been serving more than 308,000 patients in more than 60 countries with teams of medical and non-medical volunteers worldwide. Since 1991, co-founder of Sheen Hok Charitable Foundation, Professor Alice Chiu paved the way for Operation Smile to perform countless medical mission in different provinces of China with her 28 years of experience in supporting more than 30,000 children to regain confidence and hope through restoring their smiles.

The 2019 Operation Smile Volunteer Summit was successfully held from 10th - 14th January in Fuxian Lake, Yunnan. This summit shared the global medical standard Operation Smile adopted, as well as the vision and long-term goals of organization to our medical and non-medical volunteers. Building on the success of our current programs and improving our surgical standard, we also held in-depth discussions with the medical professionals over the surgical cares for cleft lips and cleft palates, difficulties in respiratory management, emergency paediatric management, etc.
