Sheen Hok Rainbow Amblyopia Project

The Sheen Hok Rainbow Amblyopia Project was launched in 2005 with the goal of raising funds for visually impaired children from underprivileged families. Amblyopia is a common eye disease within children, and those affected have vision as low as 0.1 to 0.3. There are approximately 12.5 million children diagnosed with Amblyopia nationwide. The optimal age range for treatment is from 3 to 6 years old and the duration of every treatment could be from 9 months to 2 years which requires great patience and care.

Upon receiving proper treatment, vision of the child could be restored to normality at around 1.1 to 1.5. The cost of treatment for each affected child is ranging from HKD 3,800 to HKD 6,000, including all medical, boarding, transportation expenses and meals. Sheen Hok Rainbow Amblyopia Project has been offering free medical treatment to more than 1,000 children born with amblyopia every year. Up until now, the project has been widely performed in different regions of China, including Zhejiang, Inner Mongolia, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Harbin, Chengdu, Daqing, Anning, Nanning, Zhongshan, Haikou, Tianjin, Jiangmen, Handan, Ganzhou, etc.
